Re: Barony

We're targeting three platforms eventually, Windows, Linux, and Mac. As it stands however we can only build/test the game for the first two systems as no one on my team actually owns a Mac. But I designed the game engine to be cross platform so if I'm able to get my hands on one (or find someone who...

Barony

Hi all, You guys may or may not remember me as it has been a *very* long time since I've logged into this forum, but I'm dropping by because I still remember you guys and I frankly have a bit of shameless self-promotion to do. As the years have passed I've graduated Highschool, enrolled in universit...

Mapping Tips?

Hey dudes, long time no see! A few days ago I decided I would try my hand at some Doom 3 mapping (I originally tried a few years ago but sucked), and I'm pleased to report my first map is coming along rather nicely. Nonetheless I have a few questions about the editor that you guys will most likely b...

Re: Rage to use Steamworks

You purposely turned off updates and then complain when the games are out of wack, and are of different versions. Updates update for good reason. That's user error, not Steam error. I understand the purpose behind updates. I am typically the only person where I live who actually cares to check onli...

Re: Rage to use Steamworks

Let me tell you a story that will explain to you why I hate Steam so very, very much. I randomly decided to play Half-Life 2 Deathmatch with my brother yesterday. I ended up spending half the afternoon wrestling with Steam to update the game and then run it. On multiple occasions, Steam would random...

Re: Rage to use Steamworks

Steam is an unstable piece of crap. It's unresponsive and buggy, and it's super annoying that a game might randomly start updating after I specifically tell it not to ever update. I hate how tying Steam in to some games might reduce the game's lifespan by implementing restrictive DRM and activation ...

Rage to use Steamworks

http://www.shacknews.com/article/69716/ ... steamworks

Worst news ever. Steam is the worst software of all time, and now it's an integrated part of Rage.

Re: Again, No Doom4!

I'm surprised because publishers tend to be picky about these kinds of things. When a large portion of your codebase is based on old technology like that publishers tend to be wary of your product.

Re: Again, No Doom4!

Doom 4 probably isn't far enough along to be suitable for screenshots or videos. A little info at least would have been nice, we know next to nothing about the game as it is and they've been teasing us for 3 years now. As for doom 3 GPL, I wouldn't expect them to release it while several projects a...

Again, No Doom4!

http://pc.ign.com/articles/118/1186233p1.html QuakeCon 2011 is underway, and most of the talk this year is about Rage, id Software's first major release since Doom 3. It's a sensible focus considering Rage comes out in less than two months, but still, what's going on with Doom 4, first announced way...

Re: The Go-Off-Topic Topic

Geez, organizing a game dev team is HARD. EDIT: I guess it doesn't help when you're still in highschool, working daily for your dad's online business, completing never-ending programming contracts for clients overseas, working on your own personal programming projects, and saving enough room to eat,...

Re: G.R.U.N.T.S.

It's fun to get emails like this. Quoting: "Sheridan, Are you really 17? I don't really have a purpose in sending you this email, but I did find it amusing that G.R.U.N.T.S. has a +16 age rating (according to the website), when its programmer was likely younger when it was coded. That is, if yo...

Re: Carmack talks Quake 5

Good news. A few months ago I finally registered Quake, and I've enjoyed the rest of the single player missions so far. I don't do this often, but I also downloaded the soundtrack so that I could enjoy the game with the proper ambiance as well. I have no reservations for doing this; I bought the gam...

Re: G.R.U.N.T.S.

An updated demo was released a few days ago: http://www.icevalk-entertainment.com/grunts/downloads/G.R.U.N.T.S.DemoSetup.exe The original demo I posted here was released prematurely to meet the deadline of a contest (which we won, by the way), and contains numerous bugs that this new demo fixes. Thi...

Re: G.R.U.N.T.S.

A demo of the game can now be downloaded here: http://www.opserver.de/coni_users/web_users/pirvu/au/demo/zips/grunts.zip Be aware that we had to quickly release this demo for an upcoming contest, and thus it has some annoying bugs and problems that will be fixed by the time the first episode is avai...
